In the Old Testament, tithes and offerings supported the Levitical priesthood. The tithe was on crops and animals that were in herds and flocks, and there were firstfruits and other offerings. The Levitical priesthood ended at the cross, and so did it's method of support.

The Old Testament was replaced by the New Testament and free-will giving, from the heart, replaces tithing.
